National Spatial Development Framework

The National Spatial Development Framework (NSDF) is the first of its kind to be compiled in terms of the Spatial Planning & Land Use Management Act (SPLUMA), a new addition to the ‘family’ of spatial development frameworks (SDFs) in the Republic of South Africa.
Through a multi-disciplinary team of planning, development & GIS specialists headed up by
Enterprise University of Pretoria, the NSDF builds on the efforts of the National Development Plan; providing an instrument to guide spatial development planning from a national perspective.
While taking stock of planning and development legacies of the past, the NSDF casts its view towards South African 2050 with strategic spatial recommendations designed to address the challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment.
As part of the NSDF skills transfer activities, SATPLAN ALPHA assisted with the design and coordination the NSDF Young Planners Programme (NSDF YPP); a capacity building programme for 28 young planning professionals from various government departments of the RDLR Technical Working Group (TWG).
