DATA DAY | City Data as the Universal Language
WE ARE FAST APPROACHING AN ERA OF UBIQUITOUS DATA.
Online data portals are becoming more commonplace. The opportunities of increased access to data are now offset by uncertainty over data quality. In this context I was encouraged to recently come across the World Council on City Data (WCCD) Data Portal.
The WCCD hosts a network of innovative cities committed to improving services and quality of life with open city data and provides a consistent and comprehensive platform for standardised urban metrics.
Through the ISO 37120 certification system and the Global Cities Registry™, the WCCD provides standardised city metrics for analyses in terms of 17 themes on city services and quality of life.
The WCCD Data Portal allows the user to navigate and view available data for certified cities, with useful filters to distill results across themes.
